Newbridge House has established a £1,000 student nurse bursary in memory of Glen Jones, one of the service’s directors, who died in 2013.

The bursary has been launched to promote training and development, offering opportunities for mental health nursing students and forging links with universities.

Mr Jones was part of the original team which founded Newbridge House in 2008 and was personally committed to staff development and training.

Natalie Maley, acting clinical manager of Newbridge House, said: “With our Glen Jones Bursary, we want to find the eating disorders nurses of the future and offer them the opportunity to develop their skills at Newbridge House.

“Nursing is at the heart of our service – the clinical manager and deputy are nurses and nurses have a strong voice on our multi-disciplinary teams. We have a well-established, committed nursing team because we believe in supporting and developing staff but our service is expanding and we want to build this team further.”

The recipient of the Glen Jones Bursary will be awarded £1,000 towards IT, books and any other costs related to their studies. Additionally, the university where the Bursary recipient is based will also receive £500 to invest in resources for students.
