Senior occupational therapist, Newbridge House
Janet Tighe is the senior occupational therapist at Newbridge House where she works full-time, collaborating closely with the multi-disciplinary therapy team and delivering key parts of the group programme.
Janet completed a first degree in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience before gaining her BSc in Occupational Therapy from the University of Derby. Before and during both degrees, Janet worked as a residential support worker for people with learning difficulties, mental health difficulties and teenage parents, gaining valuable skills and experience for her current role. This included promoting choice and independence, dealing with challenging behavior and being a key worker for individuals.
Her first post as a qualified occupational therapist was at Parkview Clinic, part of Birmingham Children’s Hospital NHS Trust. At Parkview, Janet was the occupational therapy lead for one of three inpatient units working with young people aged 12 to 18 with mental health difficulties including eating disorders. Janet was responsible for kitchen and community assessments, running patient groups, liaising and communicating with families and a wide range of other professionals.
Janet took up her post at Newbridge House in May 2011, bringing extensive experience and her own motivation to focus upon the field of eating disorders treatment specifically.
